Pupils finish third in DRET Summer Cup

Pupils from Falconer’s Hill Academy are celebrating after finishing in the top three at a sports event that was attended by Denise Lewis OBE, Gabby Logan and former Scotland Rugby International, Kenny Logan.

Falconer’s Hill Academy came third at the David Ross Education Trust’s (DRET) Summer Cup, a festival of competitive sport held at the Grantham Meres Sports Stadium.

The competition saw students and pupils from across DRET’s network of over 30 academies compete in a series of events including indoor athletics, swimming, hockey and table tennis.

Olympic Gold medallist, Denise Lewis OBE, commented: "I am so honoured to be part of this inspiring event. Being exposed to sport at a young age is so important and I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I had not been involved in sporting activities.

She continued: "What’s great about the Summer Cup is that by bringing these academies together they have the opportunity to experience a high level of competition.”

As well as meeting the Olympic champion, students also had the opportunity to be interviewed by former gymnast and renowned TV presenter, Gabby Logan

In a close fought event, Falconer’s Hill Academy excelled in their events and secured third place out of twenty-one other primary schools taking part.

David Ross, Sponsor of the Trust, said: “The Summer Cup has been an incredible success and proves that this event just keeps getting bigger and better each year.

“Events like this are really important to us as they bring us together and really showcase the high level of talent and potential we have in our network. I am very proud of each and every one of the students that took part.”
